HGRG
Human Genetics Research Group (HGRG) is multi-institutional group led by Human Genetics Research Lab (HGRL), Central University of Jammu, Jammu, India and located in Jammu and Kashmir, India. Feat of HGRG has been conceived at "National Centre of Applied Human Genetics" (NCAHG), Jawaharlal Nehru University (JNU) in early years of 2K. With background of Ph.D. in Human Genetics, Advanced training and fellowship in Molecular Genetics from TSRH Dallas,Tx USA and UTSW Medical Centre, Dallas Tx,USA; coordinator Prof. Swarkar Sharma is lab head HGRL and leading HGRG team. The team, comprised of researchers with enhanced skill sets, is working in the area Human Evolutionary Genetics, Rare Undiagnosed Genetic Disorders and Complex Genetic disorders in Human population of Jammu and Kashmir. Group has high impact scientific research publications and patents to their credit.
Project JK-DNA
Project JK-DNA represent resources in development by HGRG investigators. The main goal is aggregating and harmonising Genomic data from population of J&K, generated through candidate gene study approaches, high throughput methodologies for Genome wide Association Studies (GWAS), genome sequencing projects (Next Generation Sequencing), published resources or public datasets, and making open data available for the use of wider scientific community, especially researchers in J&K and India. Datasets generated with support from research collaborators will be pooled with references for better and higher genomic resolution. In addition, focus is on admixture mapping and phylogenetics resources development for better understanding of the structure of the populations with futuristic aims like disease risk predictions and personalised medicine. Research support from various Funding agencies have been key factors in strengthening the efforts and achieving the feat.
